Musical Events
Starting this fall, the Foundation will underwrite a variety of free musical performances in the library, including "Prairie Breezes" concerts for children (and their parents) in the auditorium, plus Sunday afternoon concerts in the Adult Services's historic east reading rooms. In addition, some concerts will be scheduled on the Cherry Alley plaza. This year, the Foundation plans to raise $20,000 to underwrite the cost of equipment (including a high-quality upright piano for the east reading rooms), honorariums to musicians, and planning costs. Subsequent performances will cost about $10,000 per year.
Sponsor music groups
Occasionally, library patrons have enjoyed afternoon concerts. We have had a wide variety of music, ranging from string quartets to jazz to bluegrass. These have been so successful that we plan to offer music on Sunday afternoons. This will be made possible with sponsorship of one or more musical groups.
Upright piano
We have purchased an upright piano for the first floor of the library to be used for these concerts. The foundation would welcome contributions to cover the $8,000 cost of the piano.
Public address system
We have had a wide variety of music, ranging from string quartets to jazz to bluegrass. To enhance these concerts a public address system is needed for the first floor of the library. We would welcome contributions for this as well.
