The Urbana Free Library Foundation
The Urbana Free Library Foundation was established in 1997 as a non-profit organization managed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Its first priority was to plan for and raise funds for the library expansion. With that goal achieved, the Foundation continues to enhance the library buildings and grounds, support programs and services, and promote the interest and welfare of the library community beyond those provided by tax support.

The Historic Race Street Entrance
The familiar blue and white awning and flower boxes that festoon the library’s Race Street porch is a sight that many associate with summer in downtown Urbana. Sadly, the porch is slowly coming apart and will very soon need to be rebuilt.
With your support the Foundation has been able to provide the following enhancements, which were outside of the library’s budget:
- Music programs for children and adults
- Upright piano for concerts in the Busey-Mills Reading Room
- Outdoor sculptures
- Cherry Alley arch
- Outdoor benches and planters
- Art inside the library
- Flower boxes on the Race Street porch
- Restoration of important Archives maps and drawings
