Ibidem
The Urbana Free Library Foundation has contracted with Cecilia Allen of Urbana to execute a bronze sculpture for installation this fall. Titled Ibidem, the new sculpture will be installed in the small garden area at the southeast end of Cherry Alley.
"My proposal begins with a parabola. The finished work should be relatively small in scale at around twenty-five inches tall, primarily because of the intimacy of the site. The surface of the parabola reflects a portion of an open book modified into a circle, which is to contain inspirational passages from the arts and sciences. There are letters bubbling from the crevice of the binding, unorganized on the verso and coalescing into words and lines of text on the recto."
An edition of 40 cast bronze miniatures of the new sculpture, approximately 4-1/2 inches tall, will be available from The Urbana Free Library Foundation for a gift of $400, of which $250 is tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. Profits from the sale of miniatures will be used for future artworks.
