Youth Literature Festival: Author Visits at Your Library

logo

Here is your opportunity to chat with your favorite authors at your library! On Saturday, October 4, 2008, the library will welcome three nationally acclaimed authors as part of the Youth Literature Festival, sponsored by the College of Education, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

10:00 a.m. - Coretta Scott King Book Award winner Ashley Bryan will describe the process he uses to create the intricate and colorful paper-cut illustrations in such titles as My America and Sing to the Sun. His vibrant performance will focus on African American poetry, storytelling, and music.

1:00 p.m. - We’ll welcome Jennifer Holm, author of the very popular Babymouse graphic novels and Newbery Honor Book Our Only May Amelia. She’ll tell us how she has been influenced by reading, especially through the comic books and cartoon strips she devoured as a child.

3:00 p.m. - Chris Crutcher is a novelist and was the recipient of the Margaret A. Edwards Award for lifetime achievement in young adult literature. In his dynamic presentation, he will share how his experiences as a therapist have been the source of many of his compelling stories in books such as Whale Talk.

Come join us in the Lewis Auditorium on the ground floor of the library for this author-studded event! Each presentation will be followed by an autograph session. For more information about the Youth Literature Festival, including events held at various locations throughout the community, see the official website at youthlitfest.ed.uiuc.edu
