Employment at UFL

The Urbana Free Library is very popular, extremely busy, public library.

We are always seeking applicants with a strong commitment to public service. If you enjoy being a vital part of the community, if you like meeting people and like books, this is a great place to work.

The library currently has more than 75 employees. Over half of our employees work part-time. All positions require year-round availability, and most positions require some evening and weekend hours.

The library encourages you to submit an employment application whether or not there are current vacancies. Applications are kept on file for 6 months. For maximum consideration, please keep your phone number and your hours of availability up-to-date.

Part-time vacancies are most often filled from applications already on file. The first page of our application form lists short descriptions of the library's many part-time positions. Please indicate on the application form all of the positions for which you wish to be considered.

Full-time vacancies at the library are advertised following the rules for Civil Service positions. However, if your application on file indicates interest in full-time positions, the library will actually mail you any relevant vacancy announcements.
