Each month Children's Services offers a wide variety of programs for children from birth through fifth grade.

- Babies' Lap Time is a half-hour of music, rhymes, books, and activities for our youngest patrons, birth to 24 months. Come during the day or in the evening for our Moonlight Edition.
- Chess Club for Kids is for children ages 5 – 12 years who want to learn how to play chess, as well as those who play chess and would like to improve their skills. Chess sets are supplied.
- Middle East Story Time is a one-hour cultural program with stories and a craft presented in collaboration with the Center for South Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Illinois.
- Preschool Story Time is a half-hour story time for groups and families that is filled with books, music, and rhymes.
- Prairie Breezes is a concert series designed for children and their families.
- Read to the Dogs is a collaborative program between The Urbana Free Library, Canine Connection, and the Champaign County Humane Society designed to create a positive reading environment for children who are learning to read, struggling to read, or would like practice reading out loud. Programs are scheduled periodically throughout the year.
- Spanish Story Time is a one-hour bilingual program of stories, songs, and a craft presented in collaboration with the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies at the University of Illinois.
- Toddler Story Time is a half-hour program for graduates of Babies Lap Time. Children ages 2-4 years are introduced to stories music, rhymes, and crafts just right for their active learning styles. Come during the day or in the evening.
- Write On! is a creative writing workshop series for children in third grade and up, led by librarian Elaine Bearden. Write On! meets during the school year. Topics range from story writing to poetry.
